when a bus driver suddenly accelerates the bus we fall backwards this happens due to inertia of rest.

When a bus starts moving the people inside the bus who were at rest initially falls back. The feet which is touching the floor of the bus starts moving along with bus but our upper body is still backwards. Hence we fall backwards. It is called as inertia of rest.

When the bus takes U-turn the people in the bus falls right or left side. It is because of inertia of direction.

When the bus suddenly stops the people inside the bus falls forward. It is because of inertia of motion.
