• A mechanical wave is a wave that can transfer its energy through a vacuum. Machine waves need a medium to transfer their energy from one place to another. The sound wave is an example of a machine wave.
• Electromagnetic waves form when an electric field meets a magnetic field. They are therefore known as 'electromagnetic' waves. The electric field and the electromagnetic field are perpendicular to each other.
