Principle : It works on the principle that when an acid or base is added, its smell cannot be detected.

Onion has a characteristics smell.
When a basic solution is added like NaOH is added to cloth strip treated with onion , then onion smell cannot be detected .
2. Vanilla Extract :
vanilla has a characteristics pleasant smell.
