Give examples of following reactions :
(i) Neutralization reaction
(ii) Double decomposition
(iii) Reversible reaction
(iv) Thermal Dissociation
Answers
Example of each type of reaction :
i) Neutralization reaction - A neutralization reaction is the reaction of an acid and a base to form a neutral compound, called salt, along with water.
Example :
NaOH (base) + HCl (acid) → NaCl (salt) + H₂O
(ii) Double decomposition - A reaction in which two compounds displace each other from their respective compounds, and exchange their positions, is called a double decomposition reaction.
Example :
AgNO₃ + NaCl → AgCl ↓ + NaNO₃
(iii) Reversible reaction - A reversible reaction is the one in which the products recombine with each other to give back the reactants.
Example :
2HI ⇄ H₂ + I₂
Such reactions are represented with a double arrow symbol between the reactants and the products to show reversibility.
(iv) Thermal Dissociation - Thermal dissociation is the breaking down of a compound into its smaller constituents, which recombine to give back the original compound on cooling.
Example :
CaCO₃ + ∆ ⇄ CaO + CO₂
