Too much friction requires a greater effort to make motion possible. Friction slows down a moving object. Examples in support of this case:

1. If you have to move a heavy box without wheels then the box will be very hard to push and it will also make it slow and cause some wear and tear.

2. A ball if rolled on the ground will start at the maximum speed and slowly slow down to the minimum speed and stop.

Preventing Friction:
Friction can be reduced by using lubricants like oil, wax or grease to make the surface smooth and thus reduce friction. We can also use a ball or wheel; they roll to help reduce friction. Like in the case of the first example: the heavy box could be moved more easily with the help of wheels. Another possible way to reduce friction is to change the types of materials in contact with one another.
