Isobars are atoms (nuclides) of differentchemical elements that have the same number of nucleons. Correspondingly, isobars differ in atomic number (or number ofprotons) but have the same mass number. An example of a series of isobars would be 40S,40Cl, 40Ar, 40K, and 40Ca. The nuclei of these nuclides all contain 40 nucleons; however, they contain varying numbers of protons and neutrons.[1]

The term "isobars" (originally "isobares") for nuclides was suggested by Alfred Walter Stewart in 1918.[2] It is derived from the Greekword isos, meaning "equal" and baros, meaning "weight".[3]

Isotopes are atoms with the same number of protons, but differing numbers of neutrons. In other words, the have different atomic weights. Isotopes are different forms of a single element.
Example
The element oxygen (O) is found in three naturally occurring stable isotopes, O18, O17 and O16.

Hope it helps u
