Like, turning of water into ice is an example of reversible changes
 But, Growth in height is an irreversible change. Chemical changes are changes that occur in the chemical properties of the substance like its flammability, radioactivity, etc. All chemical changes are irreversible changes

  • Chemical reactions in which products can be changed back into reactants.
  • It can procced in forward as well as in backward dirⁿ.
  • It should be carried out in a closed container.
  • They attain equilibrium.
  • Reactants are never completely converted into products.

Examples of this type if reacⁿ are:

\purple{\sf{\leadsto N_2+3H_2 \rightleftharpoons 2NH_3}}

\purple{\sf{\leadsto 3Fe+4H_2O \rightleftharpoons Fe_3O_4+4H_2}}

\purple{\sf{\leadsto CaCO_3\overset{\Delta}{ \rightleftharpoons} CaO + CO_2}}

\purple{\sf{\leadsto H_2+I_2 \rightleftharpoons HI}}

  • Chemical reacⁿ which cannot be converted back into reactants.
  • It can procced in only one dirⁿ.
  • It can be carried out in both open and closed container.
  • They don't attain equilibrium.
  • Reactants are completely converted into products.

Examples of this type of reacⁿ are:

\sf{\orange{\leadsto AgNO_3+NaCl\longrightarrow AgCl + NaNO_3 }}

\sf{\orange{\leadsto NaCl+H_2SO_4\longrightarrow NaHSO_4+HCl}}

\sf{\orange{\leadsto Ca(OH)_2+Cl_2\longrightarrow CaOCl_2+H_2O}}

\sf{\orange{\leadsto NaHCI_3\overset{\Delta}{ \longrightarrow} Na_2CO_3+CO_2+H_2O }}

Note:

  • It is written that in case of Reversible reactions , it should be carried out in a closed container because evolution of gas may take place in the reacⁿ and which will escape out if container is not closed.So ,in this case reacⁿ can't be reversed . Hence Reversible reactions should be carried out in a closed container.
