  • If we get a job in far off place, before accepting it we would try to consider many facilities apart from income, such as, facilities of our income, working atmosphere or opportunity to learn.
  • A job may give us less pay but offer us regular employment that enhances our sense of security and freedom.
  • If women are engaged in paid work, their dignity in the household and society increases. However, it is also the case that if there is respect for women there would be more sharing of house work and as greater acceptance of women working outside.

A safe and secure environment may allow more women to take up a variety of jobs or ensure that we get unadulterated medicines, unless we can afford to shift to a community that already has all these things. Money may also not be able to protect us from infectious diseases, unless the whole community takes preventive measures.

Besides income, the developmental goals of variouscategories of people are different from person to person.Some examples of developmental goals other than income are:

(i)For rich farmer Higher support price for crops, cheap labour and subsidised inputs.

(ii) For landless rural labourer More days of work, better wages, schools for their children and no social discrimination.

(iii) For adivasi No social discrimination, year round employment, school education for children and PDS shop in his village.

(iv) For urban youth Opportunity for higher education, availability of an office job and a self-owned house.

(v) For urban girl from rich family Freedom to decide her profession and being able to pursue her higher studies abroad.
