The Lok Sabha is directly elected representatives of the people and enjoys real power on behalf of the people.

In money matters Lok Sabha is supreme as Rajya Sabha can only delay a money bill for 14 days or give suggestions..

If there is a joint session of the two Houses then the will of the Lok Sabha prevails due to its numerical supremacy.

The Lok Sabha controls the Council of Ministers through No-Confidence Motion. The Rajya Sabha has no say in this matter.

Lok Sabha exercises supreme power:

  • The Council of Ministers is controlled by Lok Sabha. The person who is elected by the members of the Lok Sabha is appointed as Prime Minister.
  • If the members of the Lok Sabha are not satisfied with the Council of Ministers, then all the ministers will quit. The members of Raj Sabha will not have any say in it.
  • If a law is passed, members of both Lok Sabha and Raj Sabha take a joined session and discuss about it. If the law not accepted then the decision of the member of the Lok Sabha is taken widely into consideration.
  • If any budget is passed by the government then the members of the Lok Sabha can reject it but not the member of the Raj Sabha. The Raj Sabha can only suggest change or delay it.
