Give few reasons for the land degradation especially in India?

Reason for land degradation :

• Causes of degradation due to direct/indirect human intervention are deforestation and removal of natural vegetation, overgrazing, converting forests to farms, cultivating steep slopes and degrading marginal lands, other agriculture- related activities and over exploitation of the vegetation for domestic.

• Soil erosion due to water is the most serious land degradation problem in India. It causes land degradation through huge loss of top fertile soil along with plant nutrients through runoff water.
