Polythene is a multimolecular structure.

It has infinite chains of ethene molecule.

That's why it has very high tensile strength.

Some uses of polythene are :-

  • Polythene in the form of poly bags are widely used across the world for carry rations, goods, etc.
  • Polythene is used to pack the dry fruits, mixtures, breads, butter , etc.
  • Polythene are used for coversheet as they are not harmed in sunlight, rain etc.
  • They don't get wasted for hundred of years , that's why foods are also preserved .
  • They are of micrometre width but can carry heavy weights.
  • They are also used in automobile at higher rates.
  • They are used for making roof tops, shades, etc.
  • They are used for making, glasses, plates, etc.

But, polythene are harmful for environment as the cattles eat them and get choked and die.

They produce pollution on burning them.

They are non biodegradable and thus harmful.
