Five examples of situations where we need to know perimeter are as follows -

To properly understand the answer, first, we will be discussing the perimeter.

Perimeter :

  • "Perimeter can be simply defined as the length of the outside boundary of any two-dimensional shape."
  • Perimeters of various geometrical shapes can be determined by using different formulas. Eg. perimeter of square = (4 × Length of a side of the square)

Examples of situations where we need to know perimeter :

  1. Whenever we need to calculate the cost of fencing a ground or field, we need to know the perimeter of the said ground or field. Because the fencing is built along the perimeter of the ground or field.
  2. Whenever we need to calculate the area of the four sidewalls of a room, we have to calculate the perimeter of that room's floor. Because the area of four side walls = perimeter of floor × height of the room.
  3. Calculating the perimeters of different construction segments is important in the planning, designing, and overall construction of a building.
  4. Purchasing of different goods (eg. various construction materials) are based on the physical dimensions including the perimeter.
  5. Whenever we need to sew a ribbon border around a piece of fabric or cloth, we calculate the perimeter of that fabric or cloth, in order to calculate the required length of ribbon.

Hence, we have discussed the perimeter and examples where we need to know the perimeter.
