A number of solutions can be separated by the process of evaporation. Some of the examples commonly observed in the household or in labs are given below.•

.Salt and water can be separated by evaporation

.Sugar and water can be separated by evaporation

.Copper sulphate crystals from copper sulphate solutions

Mixtures separated using evaporation:

The various example of mixtures in which the components are separated using evaporation technique are:

  • Sugar + Water mixture. The water evaporates leaving sugar behind.

  • Salt + Water mixture. The water evaporates leaving salt behind. This technique is used to obtain NaCl in sea-beaches.

  • Crystal + Water mixtures. For example: Copper sulphate crystals can be obtained upon evaporation of water from copper sulphate solution.

  • Any heterogeneous mixture can also be separated by using evaporation technique in which the solvent evaporates leaving behind the solute.
