1.in nano industries self-assemble nanoparticles into ordered arrays(circular structure) can be made using surface tension 2.used to clean and dry the silicon wafers in chip manufacturing .extreme dust free and full dry wafers is needed to make electronic chips 3.The waterproofing tents /morden umbrella 4.Surface tension of cold water is more( high) it doesn't wet the clothes .using this concept weather protection suits are made for high mountain climbers. 5.Separation of oil and water. 6. Water repellent paint. 7.The mercury used in the thermometer does not stick to the wall of the capillary tube because of the surface tension

What is surface?

The tangential force acting along the surface of liquid at right angles to the length of the surface is known as surface tension.

Or Surface tension can also be defined as the work done to increase the free surface area of the liquid by 1 unit at a constant temperature.

The S.I unit of surface tension is N/m.

Factors affecting surface tension are :

  • temperature
  • Force of attraction

Some appliances of surface tension are :-

  1. The spherical shape of water drop.
  2. Just because of surface tension insects can walk on water.
  3. Rising of water in capillary tube is done on the basis of surface tension.
