Not really a political major, but there is one very cool feature of a democracy.
You can elect someone else come next election. Basically, in the past when people are upset with their government, they start a rebellion. Civil wars are fought and people just die.
Nowadays people just vote the offending party out at the next election. You save money from buying arms and save time from starting rebellions. And generally you get to enjoy a better peaceful life.
I mean, we can all see what happens when all civilians are allowed to keep arms to overthrow a government right?
hope it helps....

Four examples to illustrate that India is a functioning democracy are:
1. Elections are held regularly in a free and fair manner. This can be seen with the last Lok Sabha elections that were conducted
2. Elections are not just held but people take part in them with full vigour.
3. The judiciary, the legislature and the executive are "independent" of each other and work actively for the welfare of the citizens
4. The state doesn’t support, work or safeguards the interests of any one religion or community
