When an object changes its location, it is said to be in motion. Motion is described using mathematical terms such as displacement, distance, velocity, acceleration, speed, and time. An observer is given a frame of reference, and the change in position of the body in relation to that frame is tracked over time. Kinematics is the discipline of physics that investigates the motion of objects regardless of their source, whereas dynamics is the branch that analyses forces and their effects on motion.
Four types or motions are :
- Rotational Motion: A sort of motion in which an object rotates around a fixed axis, such as a figure skater on an ice rink.
- Oscillatory Motion: A recurring action in which an item, such as a swing, performs the same motion again and over.
- Linear Motion : A one-dimensional motion along a straight line, similar to an athlete sprinting on a straight track.
- Reciprocating Motions: A continuous and repeating up and down or back and forth action, similar to that of a sewing machine needle.
