Weeding is one of the most important practice in many crops. Weeding can be defined as the removal of weeds (unwanted plants) from the field.
Weeding is necessary because weeds compete with main crop plant for the different factors such as water, sunlight, nutrients and space and hence affect plant growth.
Due to unwanted plants, there is reduction in yield also.
Weeding should be done 2-3 times, whenever weeds start to grow again. Weed should be controlled in the initial stage.
There are different benefits of weeding process by which we can get a healthier crop.
By mulching, we can prevented the growth of weed. Weeds can be removed by pulling them out with the hand and there are also some poisonous chemicals used to kill weeds in the fields.
These poisonous chemicals are known as weedicides.
Weeds can also be removed by using trowel (khurpa). Weeds transmit diseases and pests. That’s why it is necessary to control weeds in time.
Thus, weeding is one of the most important practice in agricultural field.
