Here I have written a long brief summary about it:
Ambedkar is one of the most under rated and certainly least understood and glorified hero for amongst Indian intelligentsia.
His contributions
1. Father of Indian constitution
2. Voice of reason against Mysticism preached by Gandhi
3. understood the importance of cities where true freedom could be achieved. Was not an apologetic for Indian "civilization" like Gandhi and Vivekanand which had been dead for 1000 years.
4. Truly understood the reformative power of English language
In many ways a leader ahead of his times.
People whom he was trying to lead to freedom had began to love their chains as most slaves do after 1500 years of servitude.
The complete blackout of Ambedkar in our texts during academic life is one of the most shameful truths of Indian society.
The fact is what happened in 1947 was not true independence. Instead of British rulers we shifted towards the rule of upper castes like Nehru and Patel.
One set of oppressors replaced the second. If you read Annihilation of Caste by Ambedkar, he mentions that untouchables were not even allowed to migrate in event of Partition. This was no freedom struggle, for millions of SC/ST it was replacement of one form of Tyranny for another.
Reservation solution has back fired to a large extent. But the the oppression we as a society have done would require a solution from another world to succeed in 50-60 years.
If our future generations acknowledge the evils of their forefather who were not as great as Vivekanand cronies portray them to be, perhaps then we move on the path of deliverance.

Answer:
Ambedkar launched full-fledged movements for Dalit rights during the 1930s. He demanded public drinking water sources open to all and right for all castes to enter temples. He openly condemned Hindu Scriptures advocating discrimination and arranged symbolic demonstrations to enter the Kalaram Temple in Nashik.
