give function each of the following a)turbine b)condenser
Answers
Explanation:
a) A turbine is a device that harnesses the kinetic energy of some fluid - such as water, steam, air, or combustion gases - and turns this into the rotational motion of the device itself. These devices are generally used in electrical generation, engines, and propulsion systems and are classified as a type of engine
b) Condenser. The function of the condenser in a refrigeration system is to transfer heat from the refrigerant to another medium, such as air and/or water. By rejecting heat, the gaseous refrigerant condenses to liquid inside the condenser.
Answer:
The function of turbine and condenser was given below.
Explanation:
a) TURBINE:
- The machine which transforms the rotational energy into usable work or energy from the fluid using the rotor system.
- The main principle of the turbine is the potential or kinetic energy into mechanical energy.
Working:
- Turbine has a rotor which is known as shaft or drum in which the blades are attached to it. The rotor controls the fluid flow.
- The working fluid used may be of steam, gas or liquid. By the use of rotor the fluids are directed towards the nozzles. Due to the shape of the blades the rotational energy was imparted to the rotor.
- This rotational work of the shat was used to do the work.
Example:
- Windmill, Waterwheel etc.
Application:
- Used in industry for transportation and power generation.
Advantages:
- Less operational cost, efficient and lubrication cost is low.
b) CONDENSER:
- Condenser is a type of heat exchange were the gaseous substance was compressed in to liquid by cooling agent where in environment the latent heat was released.
- Condenser is used to convert vapor to liquid. It is used in the industry for the exchange of heat.
- The vapor temperature was reduced by thermodynamic contact with lower temperature external fluid.
Principle:
- The main principle of condenser is Heat exchange, by using the coolant the transfer of heat was done.
There are three types of condenser. They are,
- Air-cooled condenser
- Water-cooled condenser
- Evaporation condenser
Working:
- Through the inlet the high pressure gas enters. By the use of coolant inlet the coolant was passed into the condenser shell.
- Inside the shell the high pressure vapor gas passes where the heat was transferred to the coolant by heat transfer process.
- The vapor was converted into liquid due to the reduction in temperature.
- The condensation completes when the temperature of vapor equals to the temperature of the coolant.
Advantages:
- Used for reduction of temperature of the steam.
- The expansion ratio of steam can be increased.
Application:
Used in Industry in boilers, power plants, Chemical process.
