Answer:

Endoplasmic reticulum (ER), in biology, a continuous membrane system that forms a series of flattened sacs within the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells and serves multiple functions, being important particularly in the synthesis, folding, modification, and transport of proteins .

The mitochondrion is the site of ATP synthesis for the cell. The number of mitochondria found in a cell are therefore a good indicator of the cell's rate of metabolic activity; cells which are very metabolically active, such as hepatocytes, will have many mitochondria.

Function of ER :

  • Synthesis of proteins, carbohydrates and lipids.

  • Storage of absorbed or synthesized molecules.

  • Transport of materials.

  • Detoxification of drugs and toxins.

Function of Mitochondria:

  • The most important function of the mitochondria is to produce energy.

  • The simpler molecules of nutrition are sent to the mitochondria to be processed and to produce charged molecules.

  • These charged molecules combine with oxygen and produce ATP molecules.

  • This process is known as oxidative phosphorylation.
