⭐ Functions Of Lymph -
1] It supplies nutrition to those parts where blood cannot reach.
2] Fats from the intestine are absorbed through lymphatics (lacteals located in the intestinal villi)
3] It drains away excess tissue fluid and metabolites.
4] It also returns proteins to the blood from tissue spaces.

⭐ DIFFERENCES BETWEEN BLOOD AND LYMPH :

1] Lymph is light yellow in colour whereas blood is red in colour.
2] Lymph does not carry oxygen whereas blood carries oxygen in the body.
3] Lymph is a part of open circulatory system whereas blood is a part of closed circulatory system.
4] Lymph contains blood plasma without blood proteins and some RBCs whereas blood contains blood plasma with blood proteins and RBCs, WBCs and blood platelets.

The main functions of lymph include:

  •    Supplies nutrients to the body.
  •    Removes metabolic wastes from the tissue cells.
  •    Maintains the composition of tissue fluid.
  •    It helps in invading the entry of pathogenic infections caused by microbes.
  •    Absorbs fat-soluble vitamins and other digested fats molecules from the small intestine through lymphatic vessels.

Differences between the Blood and the Lymph:

  1. Lymph is a colourless fluid whereas blood is a reddish colored fluid.
  2. Lymph is a part of lymphatic system whereas blood is a part of circulatory system.
  3. Lymph helps in body defense and is a part of the immune system whereas blood is involved in the circulation of nutrients, hormones, oxygen and carbon dioxide, wastes and other toxins.
  4. Lymph  contains plasma and a lesser number of WBCs and platelets whereas blood contains plasma, RBCs, WBCs, and platelets.
  5. Lymph carries less oxygen and digested food whereas blood carries more oxygen and digested food.
