Answer:
Algae are photosynthetic organisms
Algae can be either unicellular or multicellular organisms
Algae lack a well-defined body, so, structures like roots, stems or leaves are absent
Algaes are found where there is adequate moisture.
Reproduction in algae occurs in both asexual and sexual forms. Asexual reproduction occurs by spore formation.
Algae are free-living, although some can form a symbiotic relationship with other organisms.

General characteristics of Algae :
- Algae are chlorophyll containing simple, thalloid, autotrophic and largely aquatic organisms.
- These are found in both freshwater and Marine habitats.
- Some of them are also found in close association with fungi and animals.
- Few species are parasites.
- The basic form and size of algae is highly variable and ranges from unicellular, filamentous to colonial.
- It has a eukaryotic plant cell structure.
- The cytoplasm contains membrane-bound chloroplast, mitochondria, ER, Golgi bodies and other cell organelles.
- The cell wall contains cellulose.
- The nucleus contains nuclear membrane.
- Algae have main food reserve as starch.
Mode of reproduction :
- The algae produces vegetatively, asexually, sexually.
- Vegetative Reproduction : it occurs by fragmentation, tubers, tollens, adventitious branches etc. Each fragment gets developed into an independent thalloid plant body.
- Asexual Reproduction : It occurs by number of accessory Sports like zoospore, carpospores etc. The most common being the zoospore, which are flagellated. the cells which produces force are called sporangium which may be the vegetative cells.
- Sexual Reproduction : It occurs by fusion of two gametes. On the basis of morphology of reproductive cells sexual reproduction is of three types - Isogamy, Anisogamous and oogamous.
