Ocean provides a mineral resource for the recreation activities of humans. Minerals that is in the form of salt, sand, gravel, elements like copper, nickel, manganese, iron, etc., are extracted from deep inside the ocean bed and also drilled to obtain crude oil.

Human beings started mining the ocean bed for several useful elements  like diamond, gold, silver and certain metal ores and gravel since 1950’s. Diamonds are found in a very large quantity in the oceans than found on the land.  

Metal compounds, gravels, sands and gas hydrates are also found in the ocean. Sands and gravels are used to protect beaches and reduce the effects of erosion.
