If x + a is a factor of p(x), then,

X = -a

After that, substitute the value of x in the polynomial,

p(x) = x^3 + ax^2 - 2x + 4

p(-a) = -a^3 + a^3 + 2a = -4

p(-a) = 2a^3 + a = -2
