Brahmavadini or “an expounder of the Veda” are those women who composed any hymns of the Vedas. The prominent among them were Lopamudra, Vishwawara, Sikta, Ghosha and Maitreyi. Maitreyi, (the wife of Yajnavalkya) is accredited with about ten hymns in Rig Veda.
