The octet configuration or doublet configuration ensures that atom has no free pair of electrons and prohibits it in reacting with any element
It need not react as it has fulfilled it's outermost shell with max no of electrons
This brings inert character in NOBLE GASES

the outermost shell of all inert gas is completely filled and they don't need to loss or gain of electrons.due to this they don't take part in any chemical reactions.
