Androecium


→ This is the male parts of the flowers and also called as stamen.

<> It consists of the filament and the anther.

<> Filament is a thread like structure which has a bilobed tip known as anther.

<> The anther has two lobes which have two pollen sacs in each. These pollen sacs posses the pollen grains.

<> In this, there are divisions of :

- Monadelphous in which stamens are united in one group by their filaments, and only anthers are free.

- Diadelphous in which the filaments are united in two bundles.

- Polyadelphous in which the filaments are united in several groups.


Gynoecium

→ This is the female parts of the flowers and also called as carpel or pistil.

<> It consists of the ovary, the style and the stigma.

<> Stigma is a terminal knob like structure which is covered with glandular papillae and serves as a landing place for pollen.

<> Style is a tubular slender stalk that connects the stigma to the ovary.

<> Ovary is the swollen basal portion of a flower that consists of the ovule which has an embryo sac that posses an egg cell, two synergids, three antipodal cells and a large central cell.
