Food web is a natural interconnection between food chain and what eats what in the ecosystem. Food web is usually represented graphically, the other name of food web is consumer- resource system. A food web is also called as a food cycle.

Food webs are limited representations of real ecosystems as they necessarily aggregate many species into tropic species, which are functional groups of species that have the same predators and prey in a food web. Ecologists use these simplifications in quantitative (or mathematical representation) models of tropic or consumer-resource systems dynamics. Using these models they can measure and test for generalized patterns in the structure of real food web networks.

A food web is a characteristic interconnection of evolved ways of life and a graphical portrayal of what-eats-what in a natural network. Another name for food web is consumer - resource framework. Ecologists can comprehensively lump all life shapes into one of two classifications called trophic dimensions:

1) the autotrophs

2) the heterotrophs.

To maintain their bodies, autotrophs produce natural substance from inorganic substances, including the two minerals and gases, for example, carbon dioxide. These chemical reactions require energy, which predominantly originates from the Sun and to a great extent by photosynthesis, despite the fact that an exceptionally little sum originates from aqueous vents and hot springs.

There are various kinds of relations of feeding that can be approximately divided into herbivory, carnivory, scavenging & parasitism. Some of these organic matters can be eaten by heterotrophs provides energy. Autotrophs and heterotrophs come in all sizes, from small amounts to many tonnes - from cyanobacteria to giant redwoods, and from viruses and vibrio ( bacteria ) to blue whales.
