Kelp's are large forests under the sea, with long stalks rising up several tens of meters from the ocean floor. Their main predators are sea urchins, who eat a lot  of them. Kelp does not have sufficient defences to keep them away, but that role is played by another predator that eats these urchins. The number of sea otters are decreasing due to the presence of these kelps.
