- Verbs is of two types, Finite verbs and Non-finite verbs.
- Verbs which can be a main verb in a sentence are finite verbs. It can shows number, tense and person in a sentence.
- Whereas, non-finite verbs cannot act as an main verb in a sentence anddo not get changed because of number, tense and person in a sentence. Non-finite verbs is sub-divided into three types; Infinitive, Gerund and Participle.
- Infinitive: It is a non-finite verb with the word "to" before the verb. It is used to indicate the purpose of action. For example, He wants to give these flowers to the shop owner.
- Gerund: It is a non-finite verb which acts as a noun in a sentence and ends with "-ing". For example, Writing in Latin is difficult.
- Participle: A Participle is a non-finite verb which either acts as an adjective or as a verb in a sentence. For example, The sun was shining, so I didn't go for a walk.
- NON-FINITE VERBS:-
- Non finite verbs retain the same from whatever the subject in a sentence. They are also called as incomplete verbs.
- They do not get affected by the person, number and tense in sentence.
- They can be used without a subject such verb cannot be from an independent clause and cannot be used without the help of another finite verb in a sentence.
