Material we need to make a compass:

1. Bar magnet,

2. a needle,

3. a cork,

4. a cup of water to float the compass.

Procedure:

1. First using touch and stroke method run magnet on needle a few times in one direction.

2. Now drive the needle through a cork.

3. Now put cork and needle setup in cup of water. And let it float freely.

4. You will see the needle points towards the nearest north or south magnetic pole of earth.

Here, your compass is ready.

Precaution:

Needles are sharp. So be careful while using them. And perform this experiment in the supervision of your elders.
