= (sec²theta)² – (tan²theta)²
= ( sec²theta + tan²theta) ( sec²theta – tan²theta)
= (sec²theta + tan²theta)

= (1 + tan²theta) + tan²theta
[°.° sec²theta = 1 + tan²theta]
= 1 + 2tan²theta
