Electric motor is a device that convert electrical energy into mechanical energy.

When electricity is passed through the motor its axle gets rotated.

An electric motor is an electric machine the converts electrical energy to mechanical energy. The reverse of the conversion of mechanical energy to electrical energy is done by electric generator, which has much in common with a motor.
