➡Plants are classified in many different ways. The Family, Genus, and species of the plant are the ones which are used commonly for studying a plant or for using its products. Sometimes, the subspecies, cultivar or variety is also considered.

Plants are classified based on:

2. Subclass - Monocotyledonae and Dicotyledonae

3. Superorder – group related to plant families. Names end with –idae.

4. Order – names end with –ales.

5. Family – each order is divided into families. Names end in –aceae.

6. Subfamily – family is divided into sub-families. Names end with – oideae.

7. Tribe - Names end with –eae.

8. Subtribe - Names end with –inae.

9. Genus – most familiar name of the plant. Almost common to the same group.

10. Species – this level defines the individual plants. It is written after the Genus.

11. Variety – a plant that is slightly different from the species.

12. Form – a plant within species with small botanical differences.

13. Cultivar – a cultivated variety of a particular plant.
