“Modi government has done a great job in spreading awareness about need of toilets. Vidya Balan is associated with Modi’s pet initiative, Jaha Soch Waha Shauchalay. She has appeared in number of advertisements, where she promotes the use of toilets in villages, which would ensure hygiene and prevent the womenfolk from undergoing hardships. “I am very happy to be a small part of this campaign that touches the lives of many who live in villages, especially women,” she was the part of Swacch Bharat campaign as soon as it was launched by Prime Minister Modi in August 2014. She has been part of various governmental advertisements to promote the use of toilets in villages. Recalling a success story she came across, Vidya said that in one of the villages she went, the actress was told a story of a couple whose marriage was first called off because the bridegroom’s family did not had a toilet. However, they constructed the toilet later, and the brought the bride to their house.
