without an ideal, the happiness and progress of life would be impossible. The traveller who has no destination is slow in motion. His heart loses that enthusiasm which alone can prompt his energies. An aimless life is always dull and burdensome. It may be compared to a straw drifting with the current. Both are like sports of either favourable of adverse circumstances. He who has a high aim in life, looks upon the world as a happy field of action, and sets about his work with untiring energy till he is crowned with success. The very effort for the realization of a high aim is a source of pleasure.
