1/2

because it can fall or cannot fall total samplespace 2 for falling it's probability 1/2

rehan778866khap56hzs: wrong ans.!!!
saksham21282: so what is the answer u can tell
rehan778866khap56hzs: by ur ans. it means that if i on my fan 10 times then it will fall nearly 5 times....

Hey!!

Here is your answer -

Let

  • the the total weight of the fan be  10kg .
  • the external diameter of Down rod is  2cm .
  • the internal diameter of Down rod is  1cm .
  • the diameter of the mounting bracket’ bolt is  30mm .

Analysing mounting bracket:

The bolt of mounting bracket will experience a flexural stress.

Using the bending equations formula,

(M/I)=(f/y)

(0/(3.142∗(304)/64))=(f/15)  ( M  is zero since the hanging load acts at the point of supports on the bolt of the mounting bracket)

The bending stress experienced by the bolt comes out to be  0Pa .

Analysing down rod

The down rod experiences a normal vertical stress due to the load of the fan

Therefore, the normal stress experienced by the down rod is

f=(W/A)

=>f=((10∗9.81)/((3.142∗((202)−(102))/4)

Stress is  0.416MPa  which is way less than the endurance limit of the mild steel.

Hence, the rod has zero (or theoretically negligible) probability to fail.
