Question

The sum of two numbers be 40 and their difference is 4.what is the ratio of the two numbers ?

Given

sum of two numbers is 40 and difference is 4.

To Find

Ratio of the two numbers

Solution

step by step explanation

We don't know the numbers so ,we have to assume the numbers.

Let us assum that the two numbers be x and y

according to the question:-

x+y=40--(1)

x-y=4----(2)

Now ,add both Equation

x+y+x-y=40+4

=>2x=44

=>x=22

X=22

Put X's value in Equation 1

x+y=40

=>22+y=40

=>y=40-22

=>y=18

y=18

We have to find the ratio of two numbers

Ratio =22/18=11/9

(c)Ratio is 11:9

Check

Sum of two numbers be 40=>22+18=40

Difference of numbers be 4=>22-18=4
