Step-by-step explanation:

  • Given
  • Diameter of well is 16 m.
  • So radius will be d/2 = 16/2 = 8 m
  • Depth of well = 28 m
  • Diameter of circular ring is 40 m
  • So radius of circular ring will be 40/2 = 20 m
  • Now inner radius r = 8 m
  • And outer radius R = 20 + 8 = 28 m
  • Let height of well dug be H
  • Volume of well dug = volume of mud taken out from well.
  • Therefore (πR^2 H – π r^2H ) = πr^2h
  • (R^2 – r^2) H = r^2 h
  • So H = r^2 h / R^2 – r^2
  •         = 8^2 x 28 / 28^2 – 8^2
  •        = 1792 / 720

     = 2.488 m
