we have a condition....two vectors are perpendicylar if their scalar product is zero....
so well use this relation...
scalar product of A and B=a*2a-2*a-1*4=2a^2-2a-4
we know....
a nd b vector are perpendicular only if,
a.b=0
or,2a^2-2a-4=0
solve it youl get:
a=2 or -1
