Aerobic bacteria cannot grow without an ample supply of oxygen involved in a chemical reaction, whereas the anaerobic term does not imply this. Aerobic bacteria, when compared to anaerobic bacteria, uses O2 for cellular respiration. Anaerobic respiration means an energy cycle with less efficiency to produce energy.

Dear Student,

Aerobic bacteria Vs Anaerobic bacteria -

  • Aerobic bacteria require oxygen for survival while anaerobic bacteria grow in absence of oxygen.
  • Final electron acceptor in aerobic bacteria is oxygen while that in anaerobic bacteria is CO2.
  • Aerobic bacteria produce more energy while anaerobic bacteria produce less energy.
  • Aerobic bacteria grow at surface of liquid medium while anaerobic bacteria grow at bottom of liquid medium.
  • Example of aerobic bacteria - M. tuberculosis, Lactobacillus, Nocardia. Example of anaerobic bacteria - E. coli, Bacteroides, Clostridium, etc.

Thanks dear. Hope this helps you...
