If a person throws a ball vertically upwards and catches it back.
Let the height be 'h'.
It's distance becomes 2h (for throwing and catching it back)
It's displacement becomes 0 (Initial and final position of the ball is same)
Displacement :- Shortest distance between the final and initial point.
