When the data has a very high or a very low value, then mean is not approximate measure of central tendency.

Then median can be an appropriate measure

*EXAMPLE* -

Runs scored by Min yoongi in 5 matches,

20, 21, 23, 100, 25

Here,

Mean = (20+ 21+ 23+ 25+ 100)/5

=189/5

=37.8

But *Median*,

Arrange data in Ascending Order

20, 21, 23, 25, 100

Middle term = ((5+1)/2)rd Term

= 3rd Term

Here 3rd term is 23
