This is also an example of a shield volcano. The shield volcano does not explode.

Divergent boundaries also form volcano, when the tectonic plates move apart the molten lava rises to come out and thus forms a volcano.

Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea are the two volcanoes that form the Hawaiian Islands. They both are considered as dormant volcanoes until 1952. The mount Mauna Loa became active in 1952 while Mauna Kea remains as dormant which is one of the volcanoes that caused by divergent tectonic plates.

Dormant volcanoes are said to be quiet volcanoes but have the capacity to erupt some day and cause destruction.
