The linear distance covered by a body can be equal to its displacement for the condition being the body does not ever repeat the motion in opposite direction of the same straight linear line of motion.
Distance and displacement both are the measure quantity of length traveled by a body but the distance is scalar quantity and displacement is a vector quantity.
Thereby, the convention of both being equal can occur only in magnitude and so both can never be equal in real terms.
Another situation can be an example for the given condition when a projectile is thrown upwards, the distance and displacement will be equal till the time of ascent and when maximum height is attained by the "projectile".
