HI !
A reaction in which one reactant gets oxidised and other get reduced , is known as redox reaction.
Here is an example , where both reduction and oxidation takes place .[ redox reaction ]
before that lets see what is oxidation and reduction :-
Oxidation : Gaining of oxygen OR Losing of hydrogen
Reduction : Gaining of Hydrogen OR Losing of Oxygen
here is the eg:-
CuO + H₂ -----> Cu + H₂O
Here ,
CuO gets reduced [ it loses oxygen ] and become Cu
H₂ gets oxidized [ it gains oxygen ] and becomes H₂O
Substance that gets oxidised = H₂
Substance that gets reduced = CuO
Also ,
Oxidising agent = substance that gets reduced = CuO
Reducing agent = substance that gets oxidized = H₂

#Oxidation and reduction
============================================================================================
★ Oxidation:-
=======================
☆ Oxidation → Loss of electron by substance is called oxidation.
☆ For example,
Na → Na^+ + e^-
2Cl^- → Cl2 + 2e^-.
☆ During this reaction, positive valency increases while negative valency decreases.
==============================================
★ Reduction:-
=======================
☆ Reduction → Gain of electron by substance is called reduction.
☆ For example,
Zn^2+ + 2e^- → Zn
Cl2 + 2e^- → 2Cl^-.
☆ During this reaction, positive valency decreases while negative valency increases.
