Dear Student,

● Difference between phagocytosis and pinocytosis -

  • Phagocytosis involves uptake of solid substance while pinocytosis involves uptake of fluids.
  • Phagocytosis forms phagosomes while pinocytosis forms pinosomes.
  • Phagocytosis is also known as cell eating while pinocytosis is called cell drinking.
  • Phagocytosis example - engulfing bactetia by phagocyte. Pinocytosis example - uptake of hormones by vesicles.

Thanks dear. Hope this helps you...

Phagocytosis and Pinocytosis:

  • Phagocytosis is processed by which a cell protrudes pseudopodia towards a particle and engulfs it into itself and pinches off that part of cell membrane that actually surrounds the particle. Then it’s a vacuole.
  • It fuses with a primary lysosome and forms a secondary lysosome which then digests particle inside and excretory product is then ejected out of cell by a process just reverse that of Phagocytosis.
  • Pinocytosis, on other hand, is just same as that of Phagocytosis but, only difference is that particle that is to be engulfed here is a liquid then being solid.
