The Medieval Period (Middle Ages) was from 5th to the 15th century.

It was a period of cultural uplift and exchange between kingdoms. The last part of the Middle Ages saw the emergence of exploration and discovery in Europe. It also opened up avenues in the field of trade and agriculture. With the population of Europe engrossed and involved in these enterprises, there was not much scope for nationalism or regional fervour.

It was only during the last part of Middle Ages that the seeds of nationalism were sown. The French revolution and influence of Napoleon gave birth to the notion of hard-core nationalism in Europe.
