The electrophile aromatic substitution of alkyl group in benzene follows Friedel-Crafts alkylation reaction.
Here alkyl chloride is added to benzene in the presence of aluminum chloride.

- The benzene and propyl chloride forms propyl carbocation.
- Non aromatic carbocation is formed when carbocation reacts with benzene’s pi-electron system.
- The non aromatic carbocation attains aromaticity when it loses a proton.
- The isopropyl benzene is formed as the end product of this reaction.
