Habitat-Turtle occurs in the sea
Habits-Chelone usually takes sea-weeds, sometimes fish also, It visits shore only to bask and lay eggs.
Salient Features-Chelone has low, heart-shaped carapace. Head and neck are not fully retractile.Limbs are modified into paddles
Economic Importance- Chelone is edible.
2-Testudo-The Tortoise
Habitat- Tortoises live on land and in fresh water.
Habits- Tortoises are herbivorous though at times they may take insects and worms. They hibernate in winter in burrows. They are viviparous. The eggs are laid in holes on land. Tortoises have become a symbol of slow movement and long life.
Salient Features-The tortoises have a short, wide trunk enclosed in a strong, bony case. The latter consists of upper arched carapace and the lower plat plastron. The carapace is oval in shape and highly domed. The head can be completely withdrawn under the carapace, The jaws lack teeth and are covered by horny sheath. The limbs have distinct digits, the majority (4 or 5) of which bear claws.
Economic Importance-The tortoises are edible.

Habitat-Crocodile inhabits rivers, tanks and marshes.
Habits-Crocodile is carnivorous, likes sun bath and aestivates in mud in dry summer. It is oviparous.
Salient Features-Crocodile has about 360 cm long, dark olive-brown, lizard-like body covered with squarish scales, Limbs are short. Digits of the hindlimbs are webbed. Tail is laterally compressed.
Economic Importance-Crocodile skin forms fancy leather for shoes, bags and purses. It is now a protected animal.
